The Linn County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, also known as The Ikes, conduct a CCW or PTC Class the second Saturday of most months beginning at 9:00 AM sharp in our Chapter House. The next scheduled class is April 14th as we are conducting a Women’s Only class in March ( already filled ). You do not need to be a Member of our club to attend. Our class is accepted in Iowa and many other states. Our Chapter House is the first building on our property at 5401 42nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids, South side of the road. Doors open at 8:45 AM and the full class is three hours plus a short review. There is also a shooting qualification test following the class at about 12:15 that can be taken then, or a future Saturday that CCW classes are given. Normally the range test for all students takes about an hour. If you have not taken an Iowa CCW class, and do not have a permit number you need the full class is $45, that starts at 9:00 AM.
Guns and Ammunition: The Gun cannot be a rimfire or .22 caliber; you must have a Center Fire Gun. The Ammunition must be new Factory ammo ( any brand ) that has a Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) bullet or Lead bullet and is not a reload, remanufactured, cowboy or target load. If in doubt, check the barrel of the gun for exact caliber of your gun. If you have no gun we can provide you with a nice gun to shoot for $25, gun and ammo for the Qualification.
Although you can learn a great deal from this class as a new shooter, this is not a How To Shoot class. Our goal is to provide you the basic information to choose a gun for self-defense and carry that gun with the appropriate permit. We spend a lot of time on Iowa and Civil law, Shoot – Don’t Shoot problems and your preparation.
To register you need to send Mike Maas at Ikes.ccw@qwestoffice.net an email with your name, address, phone number, permit number if you have one and the class date you want to attend. The next class Saturday April 14th Class! There is no class in March.
Mike will confirm your registration then you must follow this up with a check for $45 or if you have had our training and have just expired, as about our Booster Class, $30 made out to Linn County Ikes, sent to
Izaak Walton, CCW, PO Box 8509, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52408-8509 sometime before the Thursday of the next class date.
You can just send Mike the check and your information (your name, address, phone number, permit number if you have one) without the email. Students not paid by class time may have a $10 late fee added.
Once you send in your money, there are no refunds but you could still change to another class date. The Linn County Ikes are a non-profit organization and all who work on this program do so as unpaid volunteers.
The next CCW class and Qualification Day is April 14th. All Quals start at around 12:30, please be checked in my 12:20!
